Beyond the surface: inclusion and the celebration of diversity at the heart of our ESG strategy
In the world of corrosion protection, we are accustomed to thinking in terms of resilience, durability, and the protection of critical assets. Today, however, a company’s strength is also measured by ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria.
While it is undeniable that every pillar of sustainability is essential to building a fair future, it is equally true that the most authentic transformation begins from within, because the true driving force behind every innovation is our staff.
What does this mean in practice?
For us, the Social pillar finds its most authentic expression in the protection of civil rights, the empowerment of people, and the recognition of staff diversity as a strategic resource. An inclusive, equitable, and respectful work environment is not only an ethical value but also a driver of innovation, security, and growth. This is the foundation of one of our latest ESG initiatives: the idea that sustainability always starts with people.
Civil rights: 4 newsletters to raise awareness among employees and collaborators
At Donelli, we have developed a program of 4 internal newsletters to explain to all our employees and collaborators what it means for us to protect civil rights in practice.
The topics covered include:
– Diversity and inclusion
– Cultural and religious expression
– Inclusive language
– Gender equality and harassment prevention
– Parenting
– Freedom of association
– Right to training and information
– Pay equity
– Work-life balance
– Health and safety
We don’t discuss these topics in a theoretical or abstract way. We explain them in a simple, direct way, using concrete examples and characters with whom everyone can identify.
Like Gigi, Omar, and Mara.
They are the protagonists of our first newsletter, which we sent on December 10, 2025, to commemorate World Human Rights Day. Gigi, an expert milling machine operator and a bit of a grump, has preconceptions about the new hire, Omar. But when Mara explains to him how to move beyond stereotypes to avoid discrimination, Gigi decides to take the young man under his wing.
Because at Donelli, we all work together, valuing what each person can do, without labels.
Donelli and ESG: A Path to Sustainability
Since 1911, Donelli has been active in the field of protective and aesthetic/protective treatments for a wide variety of substrates (metals, concrete, wood, etc.) and types of projects (industrial plants, petrochemical and chemical facilities, power plants, civil engineering, residential, and commercial projects, etc.), using the most advanced technologies and ensuring expertise, professionalism, quality standards, and on-time delivery while fully respecting the safety of workers and the environment.
But we didn’t stop there.
A company’s journey in the ESG sphere is not always straightforward. Ours has evolved from the DNA of a family-owned business with more than 110 years of history. Like almost everyone else, we started with a reactive approach, but we recognized the need for a more structured path, inspired by the ESG models of some of our clients and suppliers. Over time, the need to define a truly proactive strategy for ESG issues has grown.
To this end, we have established an internal ESG committee and identified external partners to help us calculate our carbon footprint starting in 2023—as a first step toward reducing emissions—define our strategic sustainability plan based on a materiality analysis, and begin drafting the Sustainability Report for Impresa Donelli and Donelli Alexo starting in 2024.
